IEMA rebrands as ISEP

In exciting news for the sustainability industry, IEMA has officially rebranded as ISEP as of the 17th of July 2025. We’ll cover everything you need to know about the rebrand in this post, from the reasons for it to what it means for ISEP students and members.
What is ISEP?
ISEP (the Institute of Sustainability and Environmental Professionals), formerly IEMA (the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment) is an international organisation committed to driving effective sustainable practices across the world. This includes raising environmental management standards, encouraging sustainable practices, and acting as a membership body for environmental professionals. They’ve been operating since 1998 and offer a range of environmental and sustainability courses, many of which are available with Phoenix.
Why the change/Creation of ISEP
When discussing the rebrand, ISEP shared that the global environmental and sustainability landscapes have evolved significantly since their founding. Their new name reflects the wider scope of their efforts to set environmental standards across the globe, as well as their focus on sustainability, which has become a key factor in industries everywhere.
After deciding that a rebrand was necessary, they voted internally following research and focus groups, agreeing on the name ISEP. IEMA became ISEP officially as of the 17th of July 2025, with the changes being rolled out across their site, courses and membership scheme.
IEMA/ISEP courses
In line with the rebrand, the IEMA courses we offer at Phoenix will soon be rebranded to ISEP courses. Their content will not be changing, nor will their duration, assessment or any of the other course details. Instead, each one will have its name updated to reflect the new brand, as follows:
IEMA Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management -> ISEP Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management
IEMA Sustainability Skills for the Workforce -> ISEP Foundation Certificate in Environmental Management
IEMA Sustainability Skills for Managers -> ISEP Sustainability Skills for Managers
What this means for IEMA/ISEP students
Students currently studying the course will be awarded with the new ISEP Certificates in line with the new branding. If you studied an IEMA course after the 8th of January 2025, you’ll have had a new certificate with the ISEP branding sent to you through email. If you completed your course before this date, you can purchase an updated, paper certificate from IEMA directly.
If you’re currently enrolled on an IEMA course, you’ll receive an ISEP certificate upon completing it instead. This won’t impact the level of skills you’ll develop on the course and the courses train you to the same standard as before.
What this means for IEMA/ISEP Members
In the week beginning the 17th of July, IEMA members will receive an email regarding their membership and post nominal letters, which will be changing following the rebrand. There will be no change to the membership levels or pricing so it’s only the letters that change, as shown below:
GradISEP - Graduate
AISEP - Associate
PISEP - Practitioner
MISEP - Full
FISEP – Fellow
Regardless of the name change, ISEP’s environmental courses are one of the best ways to learn about the industry and build your sustainability skills.
