The duration of the course varies depending on the method of study.

  • When studied through e-Learning, the course is 8 hours in length.

  • Moral, legal and financial reasons for managing H&S 

  • Law overview: HSWA 1974; duties, enforcement, inspector powers & notices 

  • Criminal vs civil law; negligence tests 

  • Accident causation models (Bird’s triangle; immediate/basic causes) 

  • Safety management systems (HSG65, PDCA) and ISO 45001 

  • Policies, KPIs and measuring performance 

  • Risk assessment: MHSWR 1999; 5 steps; likelihood x severity; hierarchy of control 

  • Practical activity and summary

Learning outcomes of this course are the following:

Learners complete an online, multiple‑choice assessment at the end of the course. It tests their understanding of course material, as well as the learner's ability to apply it to real world situations.
